What is the purpose for being born again? What does it mean? Can’t we just pray and worship God and live good lives, and get into Heaven when we die?

Not necessarily…

The Bible tells us of the importance of being born again in John 3:7, Jesus says, “You must be born again.” And John 3:3 states, “Unless one is born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” That does sound rather straightforward…

To be born again means to come to the throne of God, lay our sins bare, confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, ask Him into our hearts, and be baptized.

Being born again signifies that we now belong to God, that we are a child of the Lord, and that we denounce all worldly possessions and things that are displeasing to God. To be born again means that we are professing our faith for all to see and that we are now walking the path of the righteous, so that we may one day join God in Heaven for eternity.

Jesus Christ’s death on the cross paid the price for our sins and paved the way for us to be able to be born again, to ask God to forgive our sins and wash us clean in the blood of the Lamb, his own precious Son. When we turn from all earthly pleasures and ways and come to the Lord in supplication and prayer, seeking forgiveness for our sins, we are born again into the family of God.

When we are born again, the Lord will dwell in our hearts and spirit for all time. We become born again to honor God and the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross of for each one of us. We become born again so that we can rejoice for eternity in Heaven when our life in this world comes to an end.

May God be with you.
